Kenny Chesney is the only artist whose albums I purchase the day they are released. He is also the only artist in which I have every one of the albums released to date. Over the years, Kenny has released some amazing albums, but as with many other fans, to me Kenny’s albums represent a lifestyle, not just songs, but a soundtrack to my life. As I sit anticipating the release of the first single, “Pirate Flag” off of his new album, scheduled to be debuted in just under two hours on No Shoes Radio, I am more excited about this album than I have been in a while. The reason is simple, eight out of ten songs on the album were written by Kenny Chesney. This to me means a return of the no shoes wearing, feet in the sand, old blue chair sitting, beer drinking, conch shell listening island boy that we all share as the unofficial guide to our favorite islands. Yes my No Shoes Nation friends, I am sure, we are in for a treat with the release of “Life On A Rock”.
My favorite songs have always been the tracks that Kenny explained as being written on a napkin at a beach side bar in the islands or floating on a boat with some of his closest friends. The songs that tell a story of the locals that don’t really care who Kenny Chesney is as an artist, they just enjoy his company and conversations over a beer, because at the end of the day, this is the life we all want. These are the tracks that for three to four minutes at a time, pull us from reality, and take us away to a life that sweeps away the stress one note and one wave at a time.
When I read that Kenny wrote eight of the songs on the new album, my first thought was that we finally will get to hear some more stories about locals like Jose, who lives the life we all work so hard for. Our summers will be getting a head start on April 30th this year, and with this news, the No Shoes Nation has something to look forward to, and something to pull us through the winter. While the white snow falls and cold days linger on, we know the white sand is just around the corner.
As an added bonus, being from Pittsburgh, “Pirate Flag” represents my favorite baseball team. Like we say when the Pirates win a game, No Shoes Nation, “Raise The Jolly Roger”.
